This "Exploratory Devices Research Group" investigates attractive properties and functions of quantum dots and other nanostructures and explores possibilities of employing them to realize high-performance and/or new functional devices. Founded in 2007, this group, currently of three members, including two permanent staffs, promotes research activities in collaboraion with other groups in NIMS and other research organizations, such as Toyota Technological Institute. |

In FETs and lasers, indispensable to information technology, nano-meter (nm) scale semiconductor films are widely used. Our group intends to control electrons and holes by employing not only such films but also nanowires and nanoparticles (quantum dots) and explores the possibility of new device applications, such as ultra sensitive photodetectors and ultrafast switching devices. |
